Canvas Art

I definitely have some commitment issues when it comes to investing in and placing art around my home. There are just sooo many options out there, it seems nearly impossible narrow it down. I knew I wanted to incorporate Islamic calligraphy somewhere, but didn’t know what I was looking for until I happened to come across Khitati’s pieces at a MAS-ICNA convention several years ago. If you haven’t heard of them, I highly recommend checking out at https://www.khitati.com/!

I purchased three of the smaller pieces - I liked the aesthetics of the ‘Bismillah’ and the ‘Alhamdulillah’, but the third one I chose is a dua that’s remains close to my heart. ‘Rabbi zidni ilma’, translates to ‘My lord, increase me in my knowledge’, and is a constant refrain throughout my life.

Once I brought them home, I realized my walls were too vast and empty for the art pieces to achieve the vision I was going for. I ended up purchasing 3 - 12x24 canvases from Michael's, and a few acrylic paints as well. Figuring out the orientation of what I wanted took a while, but it got there.

Because I had green accents throughout my living area, I thought it’d be a good idea to incorporate that color palette of the canvases.

I realized pretty quickly that I liked the pink/salmon tones way better than the green, and covered up all the green with gold.

I liked the white space I had left on the two edge pieces, so I ended up going back to the middle one and creating a halo effect with the white paint.

I just used E6000 glue to affix the wooden art pieces to the canvases, which worked perfectly. They’ve been up on my dining room wall for about two years now and they still look absolutely fantastic.
